From September 1, 2015 in the department work 8 persons of scientific and pedagogical staff, including 7 on a regular basis and 1 part-time, of which 1 professor, doctor of agricultural sciences, 4 PhDs, 4 docents, 3 senior teachers.

All teachers have basic higher education that corresponds to the disciplines they teach, they have been re-scheduled in a due course. That fully provides the teaching of professional disciplines.

The department staff is making major efforts to further improve the educational process, writing books, textbooks, reference books, programs of disciplines and teaching materials. Due attention is given to raising the level of personnel capacity of the teaching staff.

The history of department

In September 2003, there was created the department of "Ecology", for the head of which was nominated the candidate of biological sciences, Yakovenka M.Ia. In January 2006, was created the department of "Ecology and Horticulture" which consisted of 3 sections: SVA, Ecology and Horticulture. 1.01.2007 the department was reorganized into three separate departments, one of them was the department of "Ecology and Environment Protection". In April 2008 for the head of the department was elected the candidate of veterinary sciences Pavliv O. V. In June 2012 the department was reorganized and renamed into "Ecology, Environmental Protection and Balanced Nature Management".

The Department provides the following disciplines:

Fundamentals of agricultural ecology, urban ecology and phyto melioration, mapping techniques in ecology, methods of measuring environmental parameters, ecology, genetics, terrestrial ecosystems and methods of biomonitoring, human ecology, labour ecology, zooecology, environmental safety, environmental assessments, basics of microbiology and virology, environmental monitoring, fundamentals of ecology and product safety, ecology of pests and pathogens, landscape ecology, hydrology, animal physiology, environmental toxicology, environmental safety, methods of measurement, radiobiology, radiobiology and radioecology, introduction to the profession, biology, principles of general ecology, plant physiology, physiology, geobase of environmental data, rationing anthropogenic load, protection and rational use of natural resources, integrated plant protection, technical ecology, ecology of urban systems, environmental auditing and inspection, ecological agriculture, agrochemicals.

Scientific-research work is carried out in the following themes:

- Agroecological monitoring and modeling of agro-ecosystems that are subjected to bioorganic and traditional ways of farming;

- Technical means of protection and professional risk of machine operators in the agricultural production;

- Biological features of the formation of ecotonic areas;

- Assessing of the impact of recreation on natural ecosystems;

- The study of migration of heavy metals in ecosystems.

There is implemented on the department a new integrated curriculum aimed at strengthening the classical environmental component of educational content, giving to the graduates the knowledge about the features of the impact of environmental factors on a person and other living organisms and their communities at the Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection.

The main and the most important priority of the department is the cooperation in educational, scientific and methodical works with the departments of ecological direction in NULES, Kamyanets-Podolsky National University and other higher educational institutions of Ukraine and the University of Rzeszow in Poland.

Training courses have an appropriate methodological support: training and working programs, plans of workshops, texts of lectures, questions for the final control of knowledge, methodological programs for leading the laboratory lessons, seminars and workshops, tutorials, advanced computer programs, rating control system of students' knowledge.

The department staff is making major efforts to further improve the educational process, writing of monographs, textbooks, reference books, programs of disciplines and methodical publications. Also, they pay great attention to the development and introduction of new forms, methods and technologies of teaching, learning and application of information technologies in the organization of educational process. Due attention is given to raising the level of personnel capacity of the teaching staff.

   The department promotes the employability of graduates and their further professional growth. Graduates of the department study in magistracy and postgraduate courses in SS NULES of Ukraine and leading universities and research institutions of Ukraine.

  In a region, where the institute is situated, training of specialists in ecology and environmental protection is relevant nowadays, because of the need of personnel who combines the knowledge of ecology, biology, chemistry with the skills of exploitation of chemical plants. That is why in the formation of the contingent of students-ecologists, great attention is paid to the qualitative selection of students inclined to study the ecology, biology and chemistry, wanting to improve their own knowledge in these areas.
