1932-33 arethemosttragicyears in our history, when people died of hunger during peacetime. Holodomor (Famine Genocide) is a national tragedy for Ukrainians. It was the result of the planned policy of the Stalin’s regime aimed at conquering Ukrainian peasants. That policy was realized in the form of dekulakization and deportation of rich peasants, enhancement of collectivization and introducing overlarge standard norms of compulsory corn storage. Livestock animals, poultry and provision were taken to collective farms by the state. 

During Holodomor Ukraine lost more people than in World War II. How can such Genocide be kept quiet? We shouldn’t forget our past, when people died for their beliefs, independence and for being Ukrainians.

 In the chapel of the Institute there was an exhibition-requiem “The Breath of Everlasting Pain” prepared by the staff of the Institute Library. 

The students and the teaching staff of the Institute came to the chapel to pray and cherish the memory of all the tortured people during Holodomor in 20s, 30s and 40s.
